A Poem by Cindy Bousquet Harris: "Good Friday"

March 19, 2017

Good Friday

                                    I can’t relate to the bunnies,

                                    though cute they are,

                                    nor colored eggs,

                                    though pretty their designs –

                                    I think of You, Lord, hanging on that tree

                                    for all, for me …

                                    You didn’t stay dead, that I know,

                                    though dead indeed You were –

                                    You rose, and live forever, Lord, amen.

                                    But we mustn’t skip over what You did

                                    on this day, long ago –

                                    You didn’t skip it, but chose to do

                                    what needed to be done, by You,

                                    to save our souls;

                                    I know that we don’t have to pay –

                                    You paid, and cancelled out our debt;

                                    we thank You, God, for that!

                                    But we can stop, be still,

                                    remember,

                                    listen in our spirit, and reverence

                                    the work You did

                                    upon that cross –

                                    it’s empty now, as empty as the tomb;

                                    we know within our hearts

                                    the Easter dawn.
